Weston Park Museum, Sheffield Wedding Photography – Neen & Tim

Wednesday, December 19th, 2012

I love it when I get to photograph a wedding at an unusual venue, and Weston Park Museum in Sheffield certainly fitted that bill.

Wooly Rhinocerous? Check!

Butchers Shop? Check!

Neen & Tim’s wedding was such an enjoyable one to photograph for many reasons beyond just the quirkiness of the setting.  It’s always wonderful to photograph a couple who are so obviously in love with one another and that was certainly the case with Neen & Tim.  There were so many loving glances between them, it really was a joyous occasion to photograph.  Neen was also 7 months pregnant at the time, and the wedding bump has now become a bouncing baby Lulah, congratulations on two counts Neen & Tim!

Lower Damgate Farm, Ilam Wedding Photography – Kate & James

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

Kate and James invited me to Lower Damgate Farm in Ilam to photograph their wedding.  The wedding had a wonderfully rustic feel to it.  All of the main events of the day took place in a converted barn and we were surrounded by farm animals and the beautiful rolling Peak District hills.

Kate and James had been married at Bakewell Registry Office earlier in the day and we’re having a ceremony more personal to them and with friends and family in attendance at Lower Damgate Farm followed by a hog roast, ice cream van and ceilidh, my first since leaving Scotland for Derbyshire.  The whole day had a real fun, open and welcoming vibe to it and was a joy to photograph.  As well as capturing the main celebrations part of my brief was also to capture other goings on away from the main wedding celebrations and there was certainly plenty happening!

I should also draw special attention to the cake featuring a whole family of mice individually and lovingly made by Kate & James themselves, it really was quite amazing!

Without further ado, here and my favourites from the day:

Jo & Garf at The Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh

Friday, February 10th, 2012

This is another wedding from last summer when I was up and down between Edinburgh and Derbyshire almost every week covering weddings booked from before we moved to Ashbourne.

Jo & Garf were married at the opulent Royal College of Physicians, a truly amazing venue that really speaks of a different time with ornate fittings, wood panelled walls and a library filled with interestingly titled books.

There was always so much going on at their wedding with family and friends in abundance.  It was a real pleasure to photograph and the day went incredibly smoothly thanks to Jo’s expert planning.

Follows is a selection of my favourite photographs from the day.

The day started early where Garf the groom hosted a bus tour around Edinburgh. We were treated to Edinburgh perma-drizzle which did nothing to spoil the tour.

Next up I went over to the hotel where Jo was getting ready for some photos there. I do like to capture some of the details at this point and particularly like this photo of Jo's shoes.

Laura & Pete at Crichton Kirk & Mavis Hall Park

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

OK, I admit it.  I am a bad blogger.  However, 2012 is going to be different!  And to make amends here is a wedding from last summer to lift everyone’s spirits during the dark winter months.

Laura & Pete were married on a scorching hot day in June, blue skies from start finish – a real rarity in Scotland!

The day started at the stunning Crichton Kirk where Laura & Pete had a humanist ceremony.  The ceremony was one of the most heartfelt that I have ever had the privilege to witness.  There were many touching and personal moments throughout, at times I struggled to keep my eyes dry so that I could still see through the lens!  I really do enjoy photographing couples who are so open with thier love for one another, Laura & Pete were the epitome of this.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at Mavis Hall Park, another favourite venue of mine.  I love its rustic charm, there’s not many wedding venues that feature chickens freely wandering amongst the guests!

It was a wonderful, relaxed day that Laura & Pete really made theirs – a pleasure to photograph from start to finish.

Here’s what Laura & Pete had to say about the photos:

“Thanks for doing such a fantastic job on the photos – they were a lovely mix of group shots captured moments and wee details.  Just what we wanted.  We had a brilliant day and are very grateful to you for making the photo taking so relaxed and stress free – definitely helped keep everyone in great spirits!”

These are my favourites from the day.

Lora & Andrew at Traquair House

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Still catching up blogging the weddings from summer now that things are a little calmer!  This was another wedding booked up in Scotland prior to my move down to Ashbourne.

Lora and Andrew were married at the stunning Traquair House in the Scottish Borders.  Alas, the weather gods were not smiling upon us and it rained pretty much the whole day.  Not quite the weather you would choose for a marquee wedding!  Lora and Andrew took it all in their stride and had a wonderful day regardless of the weather.

This wedding was the first Humanist ceremony that I have covered (to be swiftly followed by the second later in the year).  I loved the honesty of the ceremony and how the couple could express their love for one another in their own words.  I’m very much looking forward to covering more Humanist weddings in and around the Midlands and Derbyshire in the future.

Karen & Rob at the Grassmarket Apex

Monday, August 29th, 2011

I’m finally catching up with myself and managing to blog photos from recent weddings!  The relocation is going well and the 2012 bookings down in Derbyshire are coming in nicely.  I still have a lot of bookings from before the move and this is one such wedding.

Karen & Rob’s day was a real pleasure to photograph.  It was a fantastic family occasion with much laughing and fun to be had.  Even the fickle Edinburgh weather was playing nice for the day, for which I am always grateful!

Karen & Rob were married in Lothian Chambers and the reception was held at the Apex International on the Grassmarket.

Here are some of my favourites from the day:

Saskia & Chris at The Hub

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Saskia & Chris’s wedding was a wonderful multi-culural fare with Saskia’s family coming over from the Netherlands and plenty of them taking the opportunity to get kilted up! The entire day was hosted by The Hub on one of the windiest days Edinburgh has seen, it was fortunate there wasn’t too much time spent outside! The main thing that shone through for me from the day was Saskia & Chris’s love for one another, in pretty much every photograph there were adoring looks between the them.  In the evening there was a ceilidh, I always love photographing a ceilidh – so much fun and action!

Laura & Niall at Lothian Chambers, Dominion Cinema and The Corn Exchange

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Laura & Niall’s day was one of many venues which gave the day a great variety. With both of them being film fans, they had the fantastic idea of going to the Dominion Cinema after the ceremony at Lothian Chambers, I love it when a couple stamps their personality on the day and does something a little out of the ordinary. The day finished up at the Corn Exchange for the wedding breakfast and a fantastic party!

Jo & Gregg at The Atrium, Edinburgh

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Due to an incredibly busy summer it has been a while with no posts on this blog, a situation that I am determined to redress so without further ado here’s some of my favourites from Jo and Gregg’s wedding at The Atrium in Edinburgh.  Jo & Gregg were a really relaxed and easy-going couple to work with and have a great sense of fun which really came through on the day.
